Gameplay and controls are ridiculous. Fishing Sim World is undoubtedly the prettiest fishing game out there with its top notch graphics. The fish are reproduced very well and look realistic, and so are the fights as you watch the fish dash about just below the surface trying to shed the hook, and yes the bass do leap. Mind you it looks a bit funny to see a big old bream racing about like a carp, but maybe the ones in the Grand Union Canal are on steroids! Game play wise it's somewhere between the other fishing games, not arcade but not a simulation either. One big plus factor is you actually have to cast yourself and it takes a bit of getting used to, but with practice it'll soon become second nature. Also the way you strike is more important than other games, do it well and you get a good hook hold, fumble it and the fish may come off. Because you pay for the game up front it's not a grindfest like the the free-to-play games, and you'll be able to fish all the waters from the word go (though of course some are dlc). The spinning is very well done, the floatfishing a bit less so - I'd of liked to be able to adjust the depth which for some reason is locked at 1 ft 9 inches regardless of water depth, apart from that it's okay. But the spinning experience is excellent and you can choose from a wide range of lures ranging from surface poppers down to deep diving crankbaits, and yes the type of lure and depth you work it does bring different species even in the same swim. There are also many retrieve styles available and it's easy to see what your doing. Depth of water is shown along with where your lure is working. Carp fishing is probably the most realistic in any game, so if this is your thing you'll probably get the best experience here, complete with all the authentic rigs, multiple rod holders and bite alarms. Some of the biggest carp waters in Europe are in this game and you'll get a chance to fish for the resident monsters that have names! I find the game fun and rewarding and well worth the current price. It looks beautiful and there is plenty to do with 3 styles of fishing available. There are currently around 18 species to fish for, both North American and European, and more are due. The devs are very good with giving you free updates and this has improved the game. There is another big update due in July which sees the addition of trout to the game.
